Courthouse Beginnings Ozaukee County was formed from Washington County in 1853 with Port Washington being chosen as the new county seat. Shortly thereafter, a two-story courthouse with a raised basement level was built in Port Washington on the southwest corner of Main Street and Wisconsin Street. This first courthouse was completed in 1854.
